Light the Inner Lamp
January 13 marked the celebration of Lohri, a seasonal folk festival held in the northern parts of India. The festival symbolizes the last of winter’s coldest days and the onset of the harvest season as the sun begins its journey north. Addressing the global online audience today, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj expounded on the spiritual significance of the festival.
While Lohri celebrates the sun that warms and brightens the earth, it is also a reminder of the magnificent Light that is within us. This Light dispels the darkness and illuminates our lives. To connect with this Light, we need the help and guidance of a spiritual Master.
Saints and spiritual Masters come to remind us of our true nature as soul. They teach us that just as there is a physical world that we perceive with our outer senses, there is a vast inner world, a spiritual world filled with love and bliss that awaits us. By teaching us the technique of meditation, a spiritual Master helps us embark on the journey into these inner realms so our soul can awaken to its true nature and fulfill life’s supreme purpose.
In the stillness of the body and mind, as we withdraw our attention from the outer world and focus it at the third or single eye, we connect with the Light of God. This Light bathes us in God’s love and brings about a profound transformation. It compels us to lead lives of service to our fellow beings and to share in their pain. We are filled with peace, calm, bliss, and happiness. On this Lohri, let us remember, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji said, that the Light of God is within, and we can all experience this Light through meditation.
