What is Living a Spiritual Life

Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj

Living a spiritual life begins with a yearning. Somewhere in the midst of our busy lives a small voice from within tells us that there is something missing in our lives. We feel that all that we have gained and amassed—wealth, possessions, name and fame, honors, and connections— have not brought us the fulfillment we seek.

Sometimes in moments of great pain caused either by illness, ignominy, poverty, or loss of a loved one, we also feel that something is missing from our lives.

This small voice is like a spark that over time turns into a flame of yearning to know the purpose behind our life. We begin to question our place in the universe, the existence of soul, and the existence of God. When we do not find the answers, the flames of the fire are further fanned, and an intense passion grows in us to find the truth.

The path of yearning is a road that starts with that small spark. The fulfillment of that yearning is what is called leading a spiritual life.
